Attorney Shafner pioneered asbestos litigation in the Northeast, with the first cases being filed for 12 shipyard families in 1975. Since that time Attorney Shafner has continued to focus on occupational diseases arising out of the workplace including the cluster of malignant brain tumors at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, dermatological reactions, industrial asthma, hearing loss, carpal tunnel syndrome.

Attorney Shafner has considerable experience in Longshore claims arising from shipyards, and stevedores activities and as well as Defense Base injuries to private contractor employees overseas.

One of the more satisfying cases involved a 4 year old child who died of copper poisoning due to excessive copper in a community well for a housing development. As a result of this case new state regulations were enacted by DEP to give proper notice of excessive copper levels to consumers.

Attorney Shafner represented a family of one of the victims of the 9/11 Twin Towers plane crash. This was a pro bono effort on behalf of the Trial Lawyers Care through the American Association for Justice. It was one of the most memorable and professionally fulfilling cases of my career.

Another memorable case involved the explosion of a large boiler in a power plant. Investigation revealed the same boiler design by this manufacturer had exploded three times previous and one time subsequent. After plaintiff's case was nearly completed the case settled for a substantial sum.
